Major Australian Place – Information Report

Major Australian Place – Information Report
At Home Research and Fact File due – Tuesday 14th August. As part of our learning in Literacy and HASS, students are being asked to choose a major place in Australia and write an information report on this place.
Students will need to complete their research at home under the supervision of a parent and then turn this into a fact file. This ties into our Reading Comprehension strategy of finding the main idea and looking for important details.
Students can choose from one of the following places or a place of their own interest.
Uluru Sydney Harbour Bridge Sydney Opera House The Twelve Apostles Great Barrier Reef Cape York Peninsular Nullarbor Plain Kakadu Blue Mountains Flinders Rangers Bondi Beach Daintree National Park Parliament House Melbourne Perth Sydney Darwin Canberra Adelaide

Week 4

Welcome to week 4.

This week we are focused on becoming experts as we write our informative texts. In reading, we are looking at identifying the key information to also help with our reports.  In maths, we are exploring mass and how we measure and estimate an objects mass.  We will also be exploring number patterns.

In science we are working on how we can estimate and measure temperature.

REMINDERS - WEEK 4
Mission Markets - Next Wednesday we will be celebrating our Feast Day, commencing with Mass at Our Lady of the Bay. Please see http://year3molc.blogspot.com/2018/08/olc-feast-day-15th-august.html for further information

Stationery Items - Many students are getting low in their stationery supplies.  Please ask your child in they need any as many students have no glue, exercise books, scissors or pencils.  Also, although stationery such as Smiggle is funky and colourful, please remind your child that is for  completing assigned tasks and should not be a distraction to those around them.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Image
Dear Parents,

Over the next couple of weeks, the we are going to participate in an initiative called 'Operation Christmas Child' which aims to pack a shoebox to give to a child who has never received a gift before. This ties into our school value of Compassion as we are helping less fortunate children in need.

Please see below an example of the provided shoe box for Operation Christmas child:

Your child will be grouped with other children to contribute and pack the shoebox. The cost to send a shoe box will be $2.50 per child.  We are asking you to encourage your child to do something extra at home to earn the money that is needed to buy the item to put into the provided shoebox.

To make organisation easier, we will be teaming with Year 3D and Years 4 to 6.  Donations from Year 3M are to be something to wear, with the remaining categories (ie something to love, personal hygiene, etc. provided by the other classes).

Your child will bring home a note which shows the age of the child y…

Term 3 week 2

Good afternoon and welcome to week 2 of term 3!!

Some of you may be aware that I am encouraging students to become more independent and open to work with others. This provides opportunity to have choice in their work habits, provides reward and hopefully to make and strengthen new friendships.
With this in mind, during gathering time I am very mindful of keeping my eyes on the students to step in if there are any difficulties and to support them in making good seating choices. Please don't think I am being rude if I am not very chatty!!

The students were instrumental in setting the rules around seating locations, with these including;
Choose to sit next to someone who helps you to be at your best and who you help to be at their best.We need a new seat every week.We need to sit boy/girl where possible. There is no saving seats.Students will be supported where necessary and may lose the option for choosing their own seat in following weeks if they are breaking these rules.

Good afternoon Parents,

Our excursion to Ngilgi Cave last week was absolutely fantastic.  It was a great opportunity to get out and explore an amazing landmark and hear local stories and information from Josh. All the kids had a great time!

Their reflection sheets will be up for display in the coming days, this gave the students an opportunity to reflect on what they saw and enjoyed about the excursion!

It has been a very busy few weeks and we have some important events coming up, please see the Reminders section below.
